Due to Nova Scotia’s cooler climate and shorter growing season, producing red wines can have its challenges. However, sourcing grape varieties and inspiration from other climatically similar, international regions have local producers investing in both new and old world varieties. Grapes such as Lucie Kuhlmann, Baco Noir, Marechal Foch, Leon Millot, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc grow particularly well in Nova Scotia, along with continued experimentation in developing hearty cross breeds and German varietals.
