Local Traditional Method Sparkling Wines Top Provincial, National and International Competitions

Canning, N.S. – Blomidon Estate Winery is having an impressive year. Three of their traditional method sparkling wines have been raking in awards locally, nationally and internationally.
“What an incredible year 2019 has been for us so far,” says Tim Ramey, co-owner of Blomidon Estate Winery. “We’re extremely proud that we’ve achieved our greatest successes to date with 100% Nova Scotia wines from our estate vineyard…and that the vision for our winery, started in 2007, is really coming to fruition.”

The winery has placed in the top tiers of the Atlantic Canadian Wine Awards, the WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada, the Decanter World Wine Awards and recently received the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Nova Scotia Wines.

“In addition to success with our sparklers, to win a national award in the very competitive ‘other single red varieties’ category with our Baco Noir Reserve speaks volumes about our wine portfolio and the hard work and dedication of our very talented and passionate team,” says Ramey.
The following Blomidon wines have received awards in recent wine competitions:

2011 Brut Réserve
2019 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Nova Scotia Wines
Wine of the Year (tie), 2019 Atlantic Canadian Wine Awards
90 Points, Silver Medal – 2019 Decanter World Wine Awards

2010 Blanc De Blancs
90 points, Silver Medal – 2019 Decanter World Wine Awards
90 Points, Silver Medal – 2019 WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada
2018 Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Excellence in Nova Scotia Wine

2015 Cuvée L’Acadie

87 Points, Bronze Medal – 2019 Decanter World Wine Awards

2016 Baco Noir Reserve
88 Points, Bronze Medal – 2019 WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada
“Winemaking in Nova Scotia is really on the edge, which is what makes it exciting. We have to use the season as a guide for our wine styles, rather than always being focused on a specific objective,” says Simon Rafuse, winemaker at Blomidon Estate Winery. “Traditional method sparkling wines have really become the calling card for Nova Scotia wines, but you need time and patience…you need to wait until the wines are ready.”
