Five Nova Scotia wines receive Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence

As the air crisps up and the leaves begin to turn red and orange, Canada’s ocean playground eases into a season of exploration, education and exhilarating views.

The award is administered in conjunction with Taste of Nova Scotia and Wine Growers Nova Scotia.

Five wines received the 2020 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Nova Scotia Wines at a ceremony at Government House, Halifax on Thursday, Nov. 19.

“Every year, the winemakers in this province create outstanding wines that successfully compete on a national and international level,” said Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc. “Over time, the wineries in Nova Scotia have advanced significantly. They can all be very proud of their wines and how they contribute to the wine and tourism industries.”

The following wines, listed in alphabetical order, were selected as the best among the wines submitted:
— NV Crémant, Blomidon Estate Winery, Canning, Kings Co.
— 2019 Riesling, Gaspereau Vineyards, Wolfville
— 2019 Tidal Bay, Gaspereau Vineyards, Wolfville
— 2014 Blanc de Blancs Brut, Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards, Wolfville
— Sparkling Rosé, Lüvo Life Company, Malagash, Cumberland Co.

The award is administered in conjunction with Taste of Nova Scotia and Wine Growers Nova Scotia.

— the award, established by former Lt.-Gov. J.J. Grant in 2014, recognizes the exceptional quality of locally sourced and produced wines, and honours the dedication and craft of those in Nova Scotia’s wine industry.
— each winery in Nova Scotia was invited to submit up to three commercially available wines made with 100 per cent Nova Scotian grapes
— 13 wineries submitted 37 wines for adjudication by a panel of 10 independent wine experts using a blind tasting process.
— up to five wines may be selected each year for the award
.– each winning winery was presented with a gold medal and certificate and may advertise that their wine was an award winner
