Ready to explore Nova Scotia’s vineyards? Before you head out, take a few moments to check out our pro tips on how to make the most of your wine adventures
Plan Ahead

A little planning can go a long way when it comes to maximizing your wine adventures in Nova Scotia.
For starters, get the lay of the land before you hit the road and map out your route for each day.
Not sure where to begin? Download the brand new Taste Advisor App and use it to find wines that match your preferences, plan out your tasting route and find other local activities and experiences that are up your alley. Make sure you also check opening and closing times at each winery to make sure you don’t arrive too early or late.
If you want to dine on-site at a winery be sure to make reservations ahead of time as they tend to book up quickly during the summer months.
Bring Your ID & Wallet
This may seem like obvious advice, but it can be easy to forget your ID or wallet at your accommodations if you’re not the designated driver or you’re taking a guided tour. Nova Scotia winery staff have the right to refuse service if you are asked for your ID and are unable to produce it. Make sure you check before you head out to avoid disappointment.
Take (and Taste) Your Time

You may be tempted to cram as many winery visits into each day as possible, but try to resist that temptation. Wine tasting is best experienced at a leisurely pace, allowing you time to truly savour each vintage, ask the winery staff questions, and soak up the stunning views that each vineyard offers.
Aim to visit three wineries a day and you’ll have plenty of time to bask in the quiet loveliness of Nova Scotia’s wine regions while discovering new wines to take home. Check out these itineraries, you may find one that’s just right for you.
Dress Appropriately
When exploring Nova Scotia’s wine regions, appropriate attire has nothing to do with pearls and Pradas and everything to do with the weather. Summer days can get hot and humid, while the temperature can drop quickly in the evening. A good plan is to dress in comfortable, casual layers. Bring along a light sweater/wrap, a pair of sunglasses, and an umbrella.
Stock Up on Your Favourites

Visiting Nova Scotia wineries offers a unique opportunity to sample a wide array of local wines, some of which are available exclusively at the winery. So, when you find a wine you love, be sure to stock up on it, because there’s a chance you won’t find it anywhere else.
You’ll also find many wineries offering on-site deals and discounts for wine lovers – keep your eyes peeled!
Make Time for Eating

Wine and food are one of life’s perfect pairings, so be sure you indulge in some of the incredible culinary experiences Nova Scotia has to offer during your visit. Many wineries, such as Avondale Sky Winery, Domaine de Grand Pre, Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards, Bent Ridge Winery, Jost Vineyards, Gaspereau Vineyards and Luckett Vineyards offer lunch and/or dinner service on-site. Still more wineries offer enticing cheese plates, charcuterie boards and other snacks designed to pair exceptionally well with their wines.
Beyond the wineries, you’ll find an array of eateries, farm stands, and other food spots beckoning.
